Today, April 19 at 12:30 p.m., Pittsford Sutherland High School Interactors began picking up litter on the Canal path starting from the Burgundy Basin Inn.  They worked their way west through Schoen Place ending on the canal path next to the Del Monte Renaissance Lodge. They were supervised by Rotarians Pat Mallery, Grace Soong and Jim Murphy.

Pittsford Mendon High School Interactors started at 12:30 p.m.from the parking lot behind Starbucks on the corner of Clover Street and Monroe Avenue.  This group cleaned-up the Auburn Trail, going east and meeting the Sutherland group at 3 p.m behind the Del Monte Renaissance Lodge.  Rotarians Pete Crooker, Whit Merrill, Steve Wilterdink and Matt O'Connor supervised the Auburn Trail group.

The Rotarians checked both walking paths last week, and the Auburn Trail has a lot more trash on it because of the restaurants that line that trail.  When their trash bins overflow or when the refuse bags are not securely tied, the garbage scatter all over the trail. The Interactors filled over fifteen 96-gallon trash bags.

County code requires volunteers to be at least 18 years old to pick-up litter along our roads.  That's why the Interactors are limited to cleaning the Canal Path and Auburn Trails.  They have cleaned the Canal Path twice a year for the past 8 years. This is the first time that they cleaned the Auburn Trail.  Luckily, today was a beautiful day to pick-up litter. Last fall, it was rainy and cold, but the dedicated volunteers completed their tasks with enthusiasm.
