Winter is just an excuse to have fun at Mendon Ponds Park during the annual Winterfest. Organizer Ken Hann, helped established the event fifteen years ago. The idea is to get people excited about winter activities that are educational and fun. About 5,000 people attended the free event while learning about and trying out winter activities such as ice fishing, snowshoeing and ice boating. While Winterfest is geared towards families with young children, it is fair to say, however, that there is something for everyone.

Last January 18, organizers put together an enjoyable day for everyone with the help of volunteers such as
Pete Crooker, Grace Soong, Dylan Brown and Ashok Gupta from the Pittsford Rotary Club.  They sponsored, directed traffic and supervised two horse-drawn wagon rides. Pittsford-Sutherland and Mendon High School Interact Club volunteers with the assistance of Rotarian Pat Mallery also set-up several tables with crafts, games and activities for children.
